Presidency condemns Israeli measures at Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque

RAMALLAH, President Mahmoud Abbas contacted Arab and world leaders on Friday to warn them of the consequences of the Israeli measures at Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, the latest of which was its attack on worshippers who were holding the Friday prayer at Islam’s third holiest site.

The presidency had condemned Israeli police brutality against the civilian worshippers, warning that such attacks against Jerusalem and its holy places will deepen the conflict and drag the region into a religious war with catastrophic consequences on the region and the world as a whole.

The presidency urged world governments to pressure Israel to put a stop to its aggression against the unarmed Palestinian people and to abide by international law regarding freedom of worship and the legal status of Jerusalem and its holy places.
