Germany supports UNRWA’s food program in Gaza with over 8 million euros

RAMALLAH, The German Government provided an additional contribution of 8.4 million euros to the work of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Gaza, a press release by the German Representative Office in Ramallah said on Wednesday.

This contribution is designated for UNRWA’s food aid program and will help to provide food assistance to the Palestine Refugees in the Gaza Strip, it said.

The newly announced funding raises Germany’s total support for UNRWA’s food aid program in Gaza to 16 million euros in 2018.

Acting Representative in Ramallah, Bernd Kuebart, welcomed the additional funding.

With this substantive additional money Germany continues to support UNRWA in fulfilling its mandate. The funds will help meet the urgent humanitarian needs of Palestine Refugees in Gaza who are dependent on UNRWA’s support, he said.

Germany also supports UNRWA in the fields of humanitarian assistance, employment generation, infrastructure, reconstruction and rehabilitation.
